Powered by me

Last week I had this idea of biking to the gym, doing weights, and biking home on our crosstraining days.  Driving to the gym takes about 15 minutes and I figured that it would take us about 20 minutes biking – it was actually closer to 35.  But, other than being a little too cold for biking, and taking so long that we couldn’t actually lift, it was a good workout.  It is definetly not an exercise we are used to that’s for sure.  I still think it can work but we will need to leave the house by 5:25 or so and then leave the gym by 6:30.  I did burn about 530 calories during the hour plus ride.

Breakfast (3):
Another egg white/spinach/laughing cow on toast.  On the side I had a few strawberries and carrots.  This was the last of my Laughing Cow, I am not laughing :(.

Mid-morning Snack (4.5):
Blueberry oat bran with some protein powered soy milk on the side.

Lunch (4):
Let me just say it is quite challenging to think of three different ways to use refried beans and today’s experiment was certainly the best!  Today I made a big bean burrito salad: greens topped with onion, jalapeños, warm refried beans, FF cheddar, avocado, and taco sauce.  On the side I had some pita chips dusted with chili powder. This was so much better than I imagined it would be.  I was savoring it a little too much though – I was 10 minutes late getting back to work. 😳

Dinner (5.5):
So we planned on making steamed vegetarian chinese buns. I even finally opened the box for my new kitchen aid mixer that I got through my old health insurance’s awards program:

There was one fatal flaw in my plan….. it takes THREE HOURS for dough to rise :shock:. What a bunch of hooey. So we, and therefore you, will have to wait till tomorrow for steamed buns. So, instead I made a grilled provolone and hummus wrap that I saw on Melissa’s Journey, a bowl of Wegman’s red lentil chili, two carrots and leftover brussels sprouts.  For dessert I had yet another apple, this time drizzled with honey.

Whew

Whew, it has been a non-stop busy day.  I didn’t even have time to read any blogs today! *sigh* 

The boy and I started off the day with a 4.8ish walk where I burned about 300 calories.  On the way back home we stopped by Starbucks and I got a grande Zen.  I love that tea and I sure needed the warmth.  The temperature wasn’t bad, but there were some chilly gusting winds. Work was super busy, which was actually really nice, but I missed catching up with everybody.  

Breakfast (3):
Egg white/ spinach sammie smeared with laughing cow and some carrots on the side.

Mid-morning Snack (5):
Cinnamon banana flax oats and a mock mocha made with hot cocoa, chocolate protein and some soy milk.

Lunch (5):
For lunch I made a bean burrito with cheese and taco sauce.  Of course I paired it with a big salad topped with blueberries and pistachios.  I grabbed a baggie of apples to munch on my way back to work.

Mid-afternoon Snack (2):
Cottage cheese with Ak-Mak crackers and a few carrots.

Dinner (7):
Mexican pita pizza with brussels sprouts and green beans. My pizza was – from the bottom up –  WW pita, refried beans, taco sauce, a crumbled morningstar farms black bean burger, onion, jalapeño, and FF cheddar.  Very tasty.

After dinner I took the dogs to PetCo so that I could get crickets for our geckos and I had to return two RedBox movies (Body of Lies and a movie SO bad we only watched it for 20 minutes, Quarantine).  Inevitably Zoey tinkled in the pet store, so I had to drag both dogs over to the “sanitization station” and then back to the piddle and then back to the station – quite a feat.  Now Zoey is SUPER house trained… except in pet stores, it must be because there is so much other dog markings there. I did end up finding a new food for them, so we’ll see if they like it in the next week or so. 

When I got back home I fixed this bowl of strawberries, Chobani, fiber one and a few meringues.

Misty

Just another lazy Sunday. The boy and I went out on our 7 mile training run this morning. It was misting outside for the whole run, but all in all not bad at all.

I had a nice warm bowl of cinnamon banana oats with some protein powder in soy milk (not pictured for some reason) and a plate of strawberries.

“philly cheesesteak” pita with green beans and butternut squash fries.

Snacks (2):
Junk food. A new weight watchers cookies and cream mini bar. These came out last week and I was thisclose to buying them because I LOVE cookies and cream, so when my in-laws had these I had to take one to try.  Let’s just say I’m happy that I didn’t buy a box. Bleh.  Then, at Target, I picked up some FF Pringles. YUM.

OK, it’s super late for me so this is going to be quick and dirty. 😀

I lost .8 lbs this week! It’s moving in the right direction!! I’m going to stick to the 25 WPA again this week and see if it keeps up. 25 WPA is going to be hard to do with today’s eats. :-/ 

Pre-breakfast Snack (2):
A smoothie with soy milk, protein powder, banana and fiber one to drink after my weigh-in. This was like drinking a bowl of cereal.  I kinda liked it, but the boy… not so much.

Breakfast (6):
French toast, cantaloupe and an egg scramble with broccoli, mushrooms and cheese.

 Snack (0):
Carrots and some FF black bean dip, which is much better with carrots :).

Lunch (4):
Big ass salad with veggies, FF cheddar, warm black beans (California Tortilla) and a toasted pita.

Dinner (7):
To celebrate the boy’s birthday we went to a local japanese  restaurant named Mikaku.  We had never been before, but it got good reviews.  It was very good and very authentic.  They greeted us when we walked in the door just as they did in Japan.  It brought back some fond memories for me and the boy. I had –

I had a 1/2 piece of birthday cake (yellow cake made w/ pudding and lemon zest, a lemon curd filling, and a pudding/cool whip icing), a tiny scoop of ice cream, a taste of the two other flavors, and another taste of the PB cup. 😀

Disturbed

First, I’d like to wish a big happy birthay to my husband Adam. You are the best and I love you too much! The boy and I will have a low-key celebration tonight and then celebrate with his family tomorrow… there will be lots of yummy lemon cake involved.

OMG, so I had the most horrible dream last night. The boy said that I was actually “talking” but not in complete words and that I looked distressed.  In the dream my mother was dying of cancer and my family and I were waiting in this restaurant/motel around this phone for a call or something.  For some reason, I went to take a nap and then had an in-dream dream. WEIRD.  Anyhow, I dreamt that I was with her and saying goodbye and I kissed her head.  I awoke from that dream a little freaked out and I knew that I just had to go see her and say goodbye in person.  I went back out to where my family was in the restaurant.  Except that when I got there they were all gone.  I was scrambling to find a phone number for my mom when the phone rang, it was her brother telling me that she had passed away.  I was so angry and started screaming at him for them not coming to wake me up and what not. Then I woke up. It was just so traumatic.  It took me some time to calm down and get back to sleep… I am so thankful that the boy was there to snuggle up and hold me.

This dream got me thinking…. I used to have this awesome relationship with my mom, she was serously my best friend and we talked multiple times a week. So some things happened that kind severed that bond and its been about 3 years since we were really close and our interactions have been really strained at best.  It got me thinking … that I really miss her in my life.  I called her up, retold the dream and my resulting thoughts, and we both cried a little.  We talked for about a half hour and I hope that it was the beginning of many more.

Onto more normal day-to-day things…

Exercise:
I decided not to mess with the knee and crosstrain today instead of my scheduled run. So I did about 52 minutes on the Octaine elliptical while watching the final episode of Dexter season 2.  SO Good! I ended up getting a good sweat on and burned about 500 calories and then went and tortured myself stretched my IT band on the foam roller. Hurts so good. hehe 😀

Breakfast (2):
Egg white scramble with broccoli and cheese and a few carrots on the side.  The broccoli and cheese got a little brown and crispy on the bottom… mmmmm

Mid-morning Snack (4.5):
Cinnamon banana flax oats with soy milk. On the side I had a coffee w/ protein and a splash of soy milk. It was not the best concoction.

A green salad topped by a wheat berry salad. Salad x2…. My green salad was lettuce with celery, peas, beets, cucumber, carrots and onion. My wheat berry salad contained:

  • 1/2 C wheat berries
  • pink lady apple
  • craizens
  • pistachios
  • edamame

I think every texture and almost every taste was represented here. So good.

Mid-afternoon Snack (2):
Cottage cheese and Ak-Mak crackers that got in a fight with my purse and lost.

Zucchini ribbons with a Boca meat and veggie sauce covered with cheese and ghetto garlic toast on the side.

Birthday dessert (3):
When Amanda first tried Pb2 she thought it tasted like frosting, which gave me the idea…. Chocolate vitamuffin with Pb2 “frosting” and chocolate sprinkles and a Skinny Cow sans stick. This was very rich and yummy, both the boy and I were sad when they were gone.

Workout:
I had this great idea last night.  Instead of driving to the gym, we can start to bike the 5 miles. So what was the weather like? Rainy of course…. next week. 🙂

This morning I did 20 minutes of the 30:30 program on the Octaine elliptical and then two turns of my circuit. THEN a good long hurt-so-good rollout of my leg on the foam roller. I barely eeked out 400 calories.

Upcoming Races:
I just registered the boy and I to compete in Urban Dare on April 18th in Washington D.C.  It is a race/trivia/photo adventure.  I have been wanting to do it for years, I can’t wait.  

I also have to sign-up for the annual K-9 2K for us and the pups as well as the 10K the following day.  These events are held here in Herndon, VA as part of the Herndon Festival.  I think this will be my 4th year participating in the 5K/10K race, but only the second time doing the 10K.  Last year was the first time I had ever covered a 10K distance race or not, it was brutal.  I remember I wanted to die because it was so hot and I was used to running in the cold mornings. My time was 1:10:34, sad.  I should be under an hour this year.

Last night I decided that I would FINALLY make a breakfast cookie inspired by Gina @ The Fitnessista.  Mine included: 1/2 C oats, 1 scoop Biggest Loser protein, 1 T flax meal, handful fiber one, 19g chocolate PB2, 1 mashed nanner, and a splash or three of chocolate soy slender and then I sprinkled a handful of blueberries on it this morning.  Thoughts: I expected it to be less goopy the next day, like the oats should have soaked up more stuff.  It sure was tasty though – like a PB & banana samwich. I wasn’t sure of its staying power since I was left wanting more when it was gone – a lot more YUM. Suprisingly, though, I didn’t get hungry for my snack until a little past 10am – 3+ hours later.

 

Mid-morning snack (3):
A WW pita with laughing cow and egg whites with carrots on the side.

A big bowl of warm goodness:  1 Can of Amy’s Chunky Vegetable soup, 1/2 C wheat berries and Morningstar crumbles with some cantelope and broccoli with black bean dip on the side. I officially do not care for this TJs FF black bean dip, blech.

The rest of the chana masala over quinoa with a mountain (ok, maybe just a hill) of steamed broccoli. Dessert was a tangerine and blueberries.

Bribery

Look puppers:
img_0379Zoey mid-wave to you all. She routinely gets so excited that her tongue “pops” out of her mouth.  The longer the pop-out the more excited she is. She is only mildly excited here.

Please accept my bribery to make up for the following whining…

SO. The run this morning. Half way through my knee started hurting. 😦 Damn you IT band! I haven’t been rolling it out EVERYday, and today we will say that it asserted itself.  I clearly heard it say “you will roll me every day or the knee gets it.” Like a good girl I did a  long rolling on it when I got back home.

But, I am really worried about this.  Not the IT band so much as the training for a marathon.  I REALLY want to do it, so I’m scared that my IT band is starting to revolt, and/or that I’m going to develop other injuries.  You know, general worry. I mean we are only in the beginning stages of training and already…

I know that I need to be consistent at my non running activities if I am going to get through this.  I need to be doing pilates, yoga and the foam roller in addition to my weight lifting.  I just have zero motivation at night.  I am thinking that Saturday will be a good place to at least get one Pilates and Yoga workout in each week.  I may have to employ the boy to kick me out of the house on Thursday nights as well so I can get to that Pilates class. Heck, it’s not like I am doing anything but watching TV most nights anyway. hehe
